There's no place like..............Canton!

My mom and I got to get away this weekend and headed to Canton! I hadn't been since before I got pregnant with Bryson, and anyone who knows me knows how much I LOVE Canton. It was my first night away from Bryson, so that was pretty tough. Jason kept him and of course did a great job. I was definitely ready to get back to him, but really enjoyed spending the weekend relaxing and shopping with my mom. We did miss our other shopping partner (my mother-in-law Janice), but are looking forward to making the trip again with her in October.
On Friday it was a chilly 38 degrees and was raining. Only the crazy shoppers were out that day (yes- I am saying that we are a bit crazy), and it was nice not to have to fight the usual Canton crowd. We were freezing, and decided to buy these head bands to cover our ears. Everyone was buying them! We took a picture with my mom's phone:

Another picture my mom took with her phone. Just one of our many loads...

I was looking for a few Easter decorations for my house and found these sweet little signs. So cute!
What a blessing to spend time with my mom and to get to go to Canton!

Snow Baby

We got 3-4 INCHES of snow on Tuesday! Gotta love this Texas weather. Here are a few pictures we took as it was just starting to snow. Luckily Uncle Will gave Bryson this camo outfit for Christmas (it's still a little big- but kept him snug and warm!).

Super Slow Sunday

Last Sunday we had one of the most relaxing days we have had in a long time. After seeing the videos of Bryson crawling, PawPaw called and asked if they could come see us on Sunday. We were thrilled!
It was a gorgeous day so we hung out outside until Grandma and PawPaw got here. Bryson was cracking up at our crazy dogs.
PawPaw pulled Bryson in his wagon up and down the street (and up and down the street, and up and down the street- you get the idea :) Bryson loved it. This was one of the first days that the weather was pretty enough for Bryson to get to ride in his new wagon.
We even spread a blanket out in the front yard and enjoyed the awesome weather and the company.
Grandma and Bryson
After Grandma and PawPaw left we decided to walk down to the park. There were a lot of other families with the same idea, and it really made me ready for summer!
Mom and Bryson swinging...
Bryson SO happy to be out and about...
Later that evening Bryson was wound up! He was bear-crawling all around the house and talking the whole time. I was trying to put his pj's on and he got away!
Jason says he looks like a little spider when he crawls like this. So funny...
And finally, when we got back from the park we had two dozen fresh tortillas on the hood of my car. Felisa had made a visit. :) We were sad to have missed her but changed our dinner plans to include her homemade tortillas. They were delicious--- so we decided Bryson shouldn't miss out. Here he is tasting his first ever tortilla...

What a wonderful (and much needed day) of relaxing with our family. We can't wait for the warmer weather!

For PawPaw...

I was talking to my dad tonight on the phone and he asked if Bryson was getting faster at crawling. He is definitely up to super speed now, so I wanted to post a few videos for PawPaw. Bryson is pulling up on everything and can easily balance with one hand holding onto whatever he has pulled up on. Tonight he even let go of both hands and balanced for over five seconds, then grabbed back onto his music table. So crazy! We. Are. In. TROUBLE. :)

(I'm not sure why these videos are showing up as black- but they do work if you click play!)

Be Mine?

Valentine's Day this year seemed to be extra special. I love holidays and love a chance to love on my boys.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Bryson got this little puppy from us! It looks a lot like his real-life version, but is much more understanding of being thrown around and fallen on. :)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bryson helped me make cupcakes for his friends at Mrs. Erin's house.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Friday Bryson got a package from Grandma and PawPaw. The UPS man brought it and it was so much fun to open. Inside there were blocks, pajamas, and a bib that Grandma made herself! It was all so cute!

Bryson also got a sweet Valentine in the mail from Granny and Grandpa, and the following text message from his Aunt Amy:
"Dear Valentine... I mean Bryson,
Thank you for the sweet hello. You are looking so handsome these days! I can't wait to see you in just over a month and teach you all kinds of aunt-ly things. Almost-uncle Zach and I love you very much. Eat lots of candy and watch out for cupid!"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Saturday Kayla came over to babysit so Jason and I could have a Valentine's Day date. We went to eat lunch and then went to the movies. Before Kayla came over Jason went to order his suit for Amy and Zach's wedding. When he came home he brought a bouquet of flowers and some chocolate covered strawberries that were for me from Bryson. Melted my heart! He also had a card and wrote a really sweet note. He said that that is what Bryson would say if he could talk. How sweet is that!? I love that guy SO much.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jason and I exchanged little gifts on Sunday, and enjoyed a great day together as a family.
Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Catching Up

We have had lots going on in the Ruple household over the last few weeks. Bryson is crawling like a champ and into EVERYTHING (seriously- EVERYTHING!). He is also pulling up to standing without even blinking. Lately he has even started to let go with one hand, and try to balance. It is so cute! He looks like he is surfing. He has even mastered falling on his behind and practices that often. He will fall down to a sitting position, stand up, fall down, stand up- you get the idea. He is really discovering the world around him. We have finally baby-proofed but count on him to show us new things that need to be locked up as he gets into them every day. He has changed so much in the last seven months (he turned seven months old on Wednesday and we can't believe how fast time is flying by)! We love this sweet boy and often spend time just hanging out as a family on our living room floor. That's definitely our favorite thing to do these days.
Here are a few pictures from the last several weeks...

Christmas! In February?
Granny and Grandpa came to visit and brought all of the Christmas presents that Bryson didn't get to open on Christmas day (because he was so sick). Bryson really got into ripping the paper- and of course- sticking it straight into his mouth!
MeMa got Bryson this cute little talking dog (although sometimes it talks when no one is around, without any buttons being pressed- not so sure about that). :)

Grandpa

Granny

Daddy and Bryson working on his new wagon! Thanks Granny and Grandpa. We have already spent a lot of time pulling Bryson in circles in our living room and throughout the rest of the house. We can't wait for warmer weather so we can go for a cruise in the neighborhood.

Just relaxing in his new ride!

One afternoon Maddie came over to play! Here are a couple of cute shots I got...
Sweet Friends

Grandma and PawPaw also came for a visit. PawPaw spent A LOT of time flying Bryson around the house like an airplane (he used to do this to me when I was little!). Bryson laughed and laughed and laughed- and then he buried his head and started screaming when he put him down! Love watching them spend time together!

Uncle Matt came over and got in a few laughs...

Grandma

So, that's what we've been up to around here. We also had the HORRIBLE awful disgusting stomach virus (Jason and I). Grandma ended up coming back again to help us with Bryson (thanks so much Grandma- we couldn't have made it without you!). We're looking forward to a weekend full of Valentine's Day fun.

More to come...

Soy = Joy

Well, we have successfully made the switch to soy formula (for some reason I still hold my breath every time I say that). It has been three weeks now, and other than a bout with constipation Bryson has transitioned to soy surprisingly easily. What a blessing to be off of that icky Nutramigen (although we were SO thankful for it when we needed it). Yeaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

True Confessions

TGIF. At least for me it is. I am only working Mondays through Wednesdays right now, so I'm officially done with my work week. And let me tell you- I am so glad. This week has been unusually long and taxing. From patients with difficult wounds, to patient's wives with difficult attitudes, it all went down this week.

I've also had a really heavy heart about a few things lately. Mainly- money. Don't get me wrong. I'm not necessarily worried about money. God ALWAYS provides in ways that I'm sure we don't even notice sometimes in our simple-mindedness.

The issue is that since we've had Bryson we are paying an ungodly amount of money for health insurance. If I have to work to help pay for that, then we have to pay childcare expenses. And the vicious cycle just goes on and on. So, the real issue is adjusting to the different changes that have recently come along.

Here is the thing. I have a habit now of replying to most situations dealing with money by immediately spewing out the words "We're poor." For instance, this morning I was at work and someone asked me if I wanted to buy some Premiere Jewelry for a party she was having. I looked at her, and then said "I'll look but we're pretty poor."

I have noticed that I do this A LOT. Way more than I should. I watched a sermon last Sunday on becoming wealthy. Of course, this preacher was not talking about financial wealth, but richness in the Lord. He had some really good things to say. Did you know that if you earn a combined household income of $37,000 or more you are in the top 4% of the wealthiest people in the world? And, if you earn a combined income of $45,000 you are in the top 1%? OMG! That puts things into perspective, doesn't it? Did you know that 55% of people in Haiti (pre-earthquake) worked all day to make less than $1. You read that right- working all day to make less than a buck- what many of us would disregard as pocket change.

So, this week the Lord has really shown me how blessed we are. Financially we have everything we need, and honestly, most of the things we want. I have the most amazing husband and the sweetest little boy I could possibly dream of.

Yesterday I went into the home of a young man who was married shortly before he went out for a night of fun with the boys. He had a few too many drinks and then decided to get behind the wheel. You can guess what came next. He totaled his vehicle, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down with a tracheotomy tube for breathing and currently has five horrible bed sores. His newlywed wife cannot work because he needs 24 hour assistance. Can you imagine what he has to live with everyday? And his wife (who I know loves him dearly but I'm sure did not plan on a lifetime of this when she said "I do")?

So, lots of other examples this week, but today was the greatest of all. After I made my comment about being poor in front of all of the nurses, I decided that I will not say that anymore. It is simply not true and I need to get off of it. I left the office and went to a new patient's home to start him on our services. His wife was absolutely awful towards me. She corrected everything I said and treated me like I was incredibly stupid. I left there trying not to feel down, but definitely did.

I stopped at Chick-fil-A and actually went in because I had to go to the bathroom. On my way into the bathroom I noticed a young girl sitting in the back corner booth with a baby in a car seat and two large bags on the floor. She was talking on the phone and she was crying. Of course this scene pulled at my heart a little bit, but I kept walking, focused on the situation I had just come out of and what the rest of the day would hold. As I walked out of the bathroom I stopped and said "Your baby is so cute." She immediately smiled and said thank-you through her tears. I asked if she was okay. She said yes and when I said she didn't look so good she again assured me that she was fine. I asked a few questions about her baby, told her that I hoped her day got better, and went up to the counter to order my lunch. There was a man in front of me ordering an ice cream cone. He turned around and asked me if that girl was okay- explaining that he had been sitting nearby and was trying to listen to her phone conversation but couldn't. He was also concerned. I told him what she had said, and he went on his way. After I got my food I still felt a strong nudging to go back and talk to the girl. I was thinking about reading the Harughty's blog and the story of Samantha stopping to pray with a crying woman in the hospital. I remember reading that story and wondering if I would/could ever be that brave. So, I said "Here I go Lord," took a deep breath and walked back to the back of the restaurant to where the girl was sitting. She greeted me with a smile, but was obviously still very upset. I said "Are you sure you're okay?" She shook her head yes. I said "Have you had lunch yet?" She shook her head no and another tear rolled down her face. I said "Can I buy you some lunch? I would really love to!" She said no, and then I insisted. She quickly gave in and said anything would do. I said "Lets go up to the counter so you can order what you want." So she grabbed the baby and headed up to the counter. Then the man that I had seen at the counter buying ice cream spoke up from a few tables over and said that he had a coupon for a free sandwich. I walked over to get the coupon, but he couldn't find it in his wallet. He then pulled out $6 and told me to use it for her lunch. I told him that I would buy it, but he looked at me so convincingly and said "Please, let me do this. Don't tell her it's from me." I doubted for a minute, but then took his money, said thank-you, and went up to the counter. It was then that she told me she had never been to Chick-fil-A. Crazy! So, she ordered chicken nuggets and we got the 12 piece meal because I was thinking it might be good if she had some left over for later. When they handed her her food she looked at me and started crying again. She said thank-you and we hugged, and then I left in complete amazement at what had just happened.

God used me in that situation. I am convinced. The most interesting thing to me is that he used me as the vessel, and the other man as the financial means. What an awesome God we serve.

So, as I sit here tonight picturing that girl's face, remembering that sweet baby Levi who had a dirty face and an even dirtier diaper, I am thankful for all that we have. We are so blessed not only financially with more than we even need, but with amazing families, friends, and a loving church family. I am thankful for a job that I am so passionate about that puts things into perspective for me every single day.

Thanking the Lord tonight for wealth in every aspect of our lives...

RIP Microwave

Well, things have been crazy around here as usual. To mix things up a bit, our house was struck by lightening last Thursday night. There was a very LOUD bang, our house shook (literally), and then the power went out. I was sure the world was ending but clung tightly to my little mag-light until we could figure out what had happened. Shortly after our power went out we noticed many of our neighbors turning on their outside lights to see what had happened. The only damage we have is a fried microwave (have you ever stopped to think about how often you use this precious kitchen appliance?) and apparently our router for the internet was blown. These are two very important pieces of equipment in our home. We do realize how fortunate we are that other things were not damaged- and that our house is still standing! I've got lots to blog about and will be posting as soon as things are up and running again...
