Bye-Bye!

Bye-Bye Bottle!
Hello Sippy Cup!
Bryson has officially been off of the bottle since last Friday. We had tried this once before- and had horrible results. Last Friday I just gave him a sippy cup with his milk- fully expecting him to reject it immediately. To my surprise, he drank it! And he hasn't had a bottle since! Finally an easy transition. Now if we can just get him to eat something other than Nutrigrain bars and fruit...
-----------------------
On a side note- I took Bryson to the doctor for his one-year well check a few weeks ago and haven't documented it yet. He weighs 21 pounds and is 30 inches tall. He is perfectly healthy and rockin' right along!

Wrapped around his finger...

Every finger and every toe, as a matter of fact. PawPaw loves this little boy. Here is a picture of PawPaw INSIDE of Bryson's tent. A tent that is meant for toddlers. A tent with a very small opening. PawPaw somehow managed to squeeze through that very small opening for Bryson's entertainment. What a good PawPaw...

Testing Phase

Something has happened. My sweet innocent little baby has disappeared! Don't get me wrong- he can still be sweet. He can still be loving. But, more often than not, we are dealing with temper tantrums and fits. When I took Bryson in to the pediatrician she noticed how active he is and how he let me know exactly what he wanted to do (and also what he didn't want to do). She said that he is forming lots of opinions right now- and let me tell you- he lets us know! Last night I took him to swimming lessons for the first time. This is a "Water Babies" type class where you sing, play games, and splash in the water. {It seemed like} All of the other kids did great. Not my child. He fussed and screamed the whole time! I spent the entire time just trying to keep him happy. Then I thought he was going to give me a big kiss on the cheek. He opened up his mouth really wide {like he usually does}, leaned into my cheek, and BIT me! Right there in the middle of the pool! What is going on here?!? Then when we got home he threw a fit because he didn't want to take a bath. Then he threw a fit because he didn't want to get out. Talk about wearing me out! I'm sure that this is a phase that will pass soon, but in the mean time we are learning so much about patience and standing firm. This kid has things figured out! Stacey says he's in the "Testing Phase". He's testing us- over and over and over again. Even through all of the testing we are so thankful for our hard-headed stubborn strong-willed all boy toddler.
No idea where he gets these traits from...

Thoughts...

Lately I am really into reading other blogs. I have definitely discovered some new favorites, and wanted to share part of a post from one of them. I love what she has to say about God holding us in one hand, and all of our responsibilities in the other. HE is the balancer of everything in my life- not me! What a relief we have in that grace. Enjoy...

[Talking about Proverbs 31]
"Now I, probably like you, have read that a million times. And before when I read it...I thought...well isn't that special...who can be like that? Really? What a nice thought but how can this really apply to my life today? I mean maybe I can try to be like that in some areas...but all of them? Are you kidding me?

And then the last time I read it...it smacked. me. in. the. face.

While this proverb IS a list that God sets before us to aim for...I feel like this last reading let me see another layer to it. And from now on, when I read it...this is what will be playing in the background of my mind...

It's about balance. It's about family harmony. It's about what makes your family tick the way that God intended it. After reading it I realized that (I don't think) there is a set plan out there for everyone. I think God has a plan for each and every family and it is up to us to seek His will in the matter of staying at home vs working. It is about what is BEST for our particular family.

To ME...my balance is staying at home...while sewing for a small living...while managing my house...while taking care of my husband...while taking care of my kids.

Your balance may not look anything like mine...and you can still be in God's will for your life. We don't have to look the same. I think God is awesome that way.

I kept getting this word picture in my head...of God holding me in one hand...and all my jobs in His other hand. To me that represents doing what He has called me to do and Him doing the balancing...not me because I am doing what He calls me to do.

The only time I am unbalanced...when my household is out of whack and when I am going nuts...is when I am trying to hold the things that God was holding for me...or trying to hold things that aren't on His list for me. Does that makes sense to you?

I now understand the proverbs 31 woman to be a wife who is protective of her family's well being and her husbands reputation, as well of her own. She seeks ways to add to her family's wealth so that she can help others too...she seeks God's will in all she does and because of that God blesses her in all she does...she brings good to her household and her children and her husband because of it. She makes choices that keeps God's will for her life in the center...and that still leaves her able to pursue business and work and charity and friends and all sorts of other things. She pursues only what God intends and not what the world is telling her she should. She defines herself by the Lords standards and not by the worlds.

All in all...there is no clear cut recipe. You have to figure out what God wants for you. Maybe that means you work...maybe that means you stay at home. Whatever brings that balance and harmony.

And maybe, just maybe, we should stop worrying about what others are doing and why...and worry more about what WE are doing and why."

What an amazing way to think about things. Hope that brings some encouragement to your week!

~~Luau Birthday Bash~~

Bryson's first birthday party was a hit!
What a day! We had a little over 50 friends and family members join us to celebrate. I know I keep saying this, but we are beyond blessed. We want to say a big thank-you to everyone who was a part of Bryson's big day. We love each of you and are so fortunate to have you in our lives.
I will try to keep my words short and let the pictures tell the story of our day...

Yummmm...
Time to open presents! This was probably the most chaotic time of the whole party. Bryson was much more interested in playing with the first gift he opened than opening any of the other gifts. Oh well! I'm sure next year will be a different story. The good news is every toy he got has been played with over and over again! He is one busy little boy. :)

What a great day! Thanks again to everyone who came and celebrated with us!

On a side note- we had several friends/family who stayed after the party and cleaned up EVERYTHING. The backyard was completely cleared, tables and chairs were broken down and put away, dishes were washed, toys were put away, and the garage was cleaned out. So, thanks to all of these amazing people, we got to spend the next day relaxing and enjoying our 1 year old. We love each of you!
