Thank you to all of you who have prayed on behalf of Jason, Courtney, Bryson, and Caroline in the past weeks. The Lord has blessed them richly with hands and feet which have served them faithfully, and this outpouring of love is such a comfort in this time of uncertainty.
The surgery did not go according to plan, but Courtney and Caroline are in stable condition, and we have much to be thankful for. While the surgeons were attempting to turn Caroline to access her spine for repair, her heart stopped beating and they decided to deliver. The doctors were able to revive her, and she is now resting in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with assistance from a ventilator. While this was not the outcome we wanted or expected, Caroline has surprised the NICU staff. Not only is she stable, with perfect hands and perfect feet, dark Strawn hair, and a Ruple nose, but she is also moving her arms and her legs, something that spina bifida is supposed to inhibit. When I asked the NICU nurse how she was moving her legs so much and so freely, she responded by saying, "That's what we're all trying to figure out!" The staff is amazed! We can only attribute this to the Lord's faithfulness and the prayers of the saints.
The surgeons suggested that the surgery to repair Caroline's spine could happen as early as next week, so please continue to pray. She has a long fight ahead of her, and will most likely continue to develop in the NICU through early April. The first 72 hours are critical, though, so we still covet your prayers. Jason and Courtney are in good spirits, and are laughing with friends in the room as I type.
I'll leave you with two words of encouragement. First, Angel just came to visit and told us that Miss Caroline is "strong like her momma," so we are hopeful. Secondly, this verse is a favorite of mine, and is a sweet reminder: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" Romans 8:28
God's blessing and our love,
Amy Lambert, Courtney's sister

I love you dear old friend and am so sorry to read that surgery did not go as planned. I have been praying BIG and will continue to do so, for all of you. I'd like to come visit but I'm not sure if it would be better to wait, if when someone has time-just let me know when might be a good time would be.
ReplyDeleteI'm still Praying Big. But it sounds sooo positive at this point, even though the surgery wasn't as planned. Keep wiggling Caroline Grace! God is with you all- He is maker of all heaven, earth and little Caroline:)
